I wanted this to be witty, instead it's raunchy. The "girls" are discussing Austen and other literary greats, but instead of making you laugh with their smarts, you cringe at their loud vulgarity and ridiculous, over-the-top, unbelievable slutty behavior, which they can't wait to share with the other Neanderthal members of the book club. There is nothing I love more than books plus absurdity and witty satire. This has the books, and it is within these classics that all the wit stays locked up. What a missed opportunity. The only good thing about this book is that it's so shallow I probably won't remember it in a week.
I loved the second instalment of What Happens in Book Club... It is such a great concept! I am in a book club myself and the things we get up to and talk about while discussing the books and enjoying a nice wine is hilarious, as is what happens in Gwyn's book club. Gwyn's monthly adventures continue with the reading Frankenstein, the return of Gwyn's friend Maureen, who adds extra witty conversation to the already fun conversations between Gwyn & her close friends Mac and Selene, and some troubles at work with an old flame from Episode 1. And will Mr Grey return, the man Gwyn can't get out of her mind? You'll have to read and find out!
Gwyn has her hands full - classic books, men, cocktails & more - can't wait for the 3rd instalment!
Super funny! A great amusing read to entertain and relax to after a long stressful day of work. I am waiting for the next one.
